This coming Thursday, Thursday April 9th at 3PM Eastern / 12PM Pacific, is the April 2020 international call for the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE)’s Critical Infrastructure Protection and Recovery (CIPR) Working Group’s Smart City Initiative.
The dial-in information is listed below. I will be giving a presentation on control system cyber security

It should come as no surprise that hackers are using the COVID virus as a ruse to expand their ransomware attacks. However, the control systems in critical industries such as pharmaceuticals, medical device manufacturing, utilities, food, transportation, and others are also in the crosshairs but have been receiving much less attention. All use vulnerable control systems as do other infrastructures that often do not consider cyber security in their design. Consequently, the presentation is being targeted at a very different audience other than typical ICS cyber webinar/conferences – the control system engineers and scientists. However, I hope that IT and OT network security personnel will also find it of interest.
The presentation will address the pervasive technical and cultural issues associated with control system cyber security that are common to industrial, smart cities, medical devices, defense applications, transportation, facilities, etc. This is also a call to action to the various organizations addressing control system cyber security and safety to collaborate. The primary cultural issues is the ever-growing gap between cyber security (IT/OT) and Engineering rather than the oft-mentioned IT/OT convergence. The technical issues will focus on the lack of cyber security in the tens of millions of Level 0,1 control system devices (e.g., process sensors, actuators, drives, analyzers, etc.) and near-term recommendations.
